Mold on floors and also on other materials has a fuzzy and dark appearance, usually of a black or darker green color. However, please note that mold can also at times be of lighter colors.
Usually, when standing near it, one can sense a musty smell. The floor will feel soft and soaked when stepping on it.
It’s not the same as rot but it can go hand in hand with it (and it mostly does, as mold requires moisture to grow). One of the ways you can tell the difference is by smell – rot typically has that damp, stale smell, whereas mold smells musty.
