carpet cleaning

A bad smell after carpet cleaning usually occurs when excessive moisture has been left behind, creating conditions where mildew and bacteria can grow in the carpet fibers and padding.

This problem often results from over-wetting the carpet, using too much cleaning solution without adequate extraction, or insufficient drying time in humid environments with poor ventilation.

Sometimes the cleaning process itself brings old odors to the surface, particularly if pet urine or spills had previously soaked deep into the padding where they went unnoticed.

Using low-quality cleaning products or dirty equipment can also introduce unpleasant odors rather than eliminating them.

Carpet cleaning can also omit odors when wool or other natural fibers have been cleaned using wet methods. This is actually expected and resolves itself when the fibers have completely dried. (i.e., wool has been known to smell like a wet dog when wet.)

The smell typically dissipates once the carpet dries completely, but persistent odors may indicate that deeper treatment is needed or that the padding requires replacement.
